Conversations with Colleagues: On the Road to PBL Land
During this first year of the HTH GSE Program, I have been inspired by the High Tech High philosophy on teaching and learning. As an educator, I am always looking for new and better ways to improve my teaching. This reflection discusses two situations where I shared PBL with my colleagues. The first time, the idea was not well-received; however, my second encounter was amazing. Melissa Showman, a third grade teacher at Finney, and I have developed a dynamic partnership. Our students met weekly as science buddies, sharing projects such as designing parachutes and paper airplanes, as well as "discovering new species of dinosaurs."
The E.M.E.R.G.E. Program
This proposal was created by my colleague, Edrick Macaligium, and myself as an assignment for our school reform class. We felt a strong need to institute change within our "traditional" school by creating a situation and realistic program to bring about positive change for students, parents, teachers, and our community. Our E.M.E.R.G.E. Program will be proposed to our new principal this Fall.
