Equity and Diversity: The Power of Written Word
This reflective writing piece describes the awakening that took place in my classroom while participating in the Equity and Diversity class at High Tech High. I always prided myself in meeting the needs of my students. However, I realized that I had not adequately addressed diversity in my classroom. This was a real eye-opening experience. Throughout this piece, I discuss the changes I made in my classroom and give examples of students sharing their personal experiences through poetry.
Implementing Inclusive Classrooms: Differentiation in Writing
In this reflective writing, I talk about the frustrations of teaching in a "traditional" school, where students lack choice and enthusiasm for writing. The Implementing Inclusive Classrooms course gave me the strength and tools to institute a critical change in my classroom. Through the use of new and exciting teaching method and materials, my students' interest and attitude was forever transformed.
